The unusual design of the new Nokia 7500 Prism has created quite a stir in the mobile phone market. Nokia has taken the look of their traditional candybar handset to all new levels with the 7500 Prism. While this eye-catching new look may not appeal to all users, this uniquely styled mobile is one of the most eagerly awaited and widely talked about phones to ever emerge on the market.
At first glance, the Nokia 7500 may look like any other simple candybar mobile but, upon closer inspection, you will notice the angular edges on the bottom of the phone. The geometrically influenced styling doesn’t end with the shape of the handset. The entire phone reflects this remarkable Prism theme Nokia has chosen. The curvaceous, 2 inch TFT display screen is accented with colourful shapes and the back of the phone stylishly boasts a similar pattern in the subtle, glossy black colour that encases the handset.
The Nokia 7500’s keypad is perhaps the most controversial part of this one of a kind mobile. The triangular shaped keys and eccentric layout of the buttons add the final flair to the 7500’s Prism design, but they appear to be rather confusing at first sight. After usage, however, the oddly shaped keys prove to be quite easy to use and work great for texting. To add a splash of colour to this futuristic, but somewhat retro, phone, the Nokia 7500 features an interchangeable colour band sandwiched in the centre of the handset. The included aqua blue, as well as a bright pink and a green insert, are the accent colours currently available.
This stylish and one of a kind phone is not just an intriguing design, the Nokia 7500 Prism also comes loaded with all the standard mobile features currently available. The ample music player includes an FM radio and sounds great through both the internal speaker and optional stereo Bluetooth headphones. The 7500 does feature EDGE technology, but is not a 3G phone. The 2 megapixel camera performs as expected for a modern mid-range mobile phone, capturing both video and photos, and includes a flash for quality shots in dim conditions.
Call quality and battery life are typical of other mobiles in this range as well. Moderate usage generally results in charging the phone every other day, while those who make use of the media features may need to recharge more often. Most users will get the best call clarity through a Bluetooth headset, but the internal speaker offers clear voice quality as well. The internal memory of the Nokia 7500 is rather insufficient at only 30 MB, so there is also a microSD slot to make file storage more functional.
The Nokia 7500 Prism may not be the look for everyone, but it is definitely a one of a kind handset that is guaranteed to raise eyebrows wherever you go. The fun, functional, and unusually designed 7500 promises to be a mobile phone that is noted for years to come.
